American Indian Law Attorney Joins Akin Gump

Steven J.W. Heeley has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as senior policy counsel. Mr. Heeley will advise clients on American Indian law and policy.

Mr. Heeley worked from 1997 to 2003 as deputy general counsel for the Gila River Indian Community in central Arizona. Before joining the Community, he served as majority staff director and chief counsel of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, as counsel to the Subcommittee on Native American Affairs of the Committee on Natural Resources, and as deputy minority staff director and counsel to Senator John McCain (R-AZ) on the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs.

Richard J. Codding has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as a partner in Los Angeles.

Mr. Codding's practice encompasses patent, trademark, trade dress, trade secret and related unfair competition litigation in federal and state courts, as well as Section 337 litigation before the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Mr. Codding counsels public and private companies on patent validity and infringement, copyright, trademark and related antitrust issues, and drafts and negotiates intellectual property licensing and distribution agreements.
