Ballard Spahr Partner Guest Speaker In Beijing

Kenneth M. Jarin, a partner in the Labor, Employment & Immigration Group at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, served as a guest speaker to a law class at Temple University's Master of Laws Program in Beijing, China.

Mr. Jarin's lecture focused on labor and employment law in the U.S., primarily on the National Labor Relations Act and labor arbitration. The Master of Laws (LLM) program in Beijing is designed for international attorneys, government officials, corporate legal counsel and recent law graduates who are interested in receiving a degree in American law, learning about the U.S. legal system and becoming leaders in the global market.

Mr. Jarin counsels clients on matters related to the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. He has participated in administrative proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board and various state agencies. He is chief labor negotiator for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia.

Robert L. Pratter recently joined Ballard Spahr as of counsel in the Business & Finance Department and Insurance Group. He is based in the Philadelphia office.

Before joining Ballard Spahr, Mr. Pratter was general counsel, senior vice president and secretary of PMA Capital, a publicly held, specialty risk management/insurance business.

Mr. Pratter's experience in counseling insurance companies on legislative, regulatory and corporate matters spans over three decades and includes representation before the Pennsylvania Insurance Department and other regulatory agencies.
