Justin P. Klein, a partner in the Business and Finance Department at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, was awarded the 2007 Dennis H. Replansky Memorial Award by the Philadelphia Bar Association Business Law Section in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the local and legal communities. Mr. Klein received the honor at the Business Law Section's Annual Reception on January 22.
Mr. Klein has been actively involved in the Business Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and has chaired its Committee on Securities Regulation and its Executive Committee. He is currently a member of the Attorney Advisory Committee of The Pennsylvania Securities Commission, and was recently re-appointed to a second three-year term. Mr. Klein's work with civic and charitable organizations includes serving as chairman of the board of the Mann Center for the Performing Arts and serving on the advisory board of the Constitution High School, a Philadelphia School District magnet school that features a curriculum grounded in American history, law and government that is designed to foster active civic engagement.
Mr. Klein is the partner-in-charge of Ballard's Securities Group, co-partner-in-charge of the Corporate Compliance and Investigations Group, and a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group, Transactional Finance Group, Life Sciences/Technology Group, and Insurance Group.
Ballard Spahr has announced that Layne J. Butt has joined the firm's Las Vegas office as of counsel in its Real Estate Department. Mr. Butt focuses his practice on real estate-related acquisition, development, master planned communities, timeshare, finance, construc- tion, leasing, sales, and the formation of investment vehicles. Mr. Butt is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and has represented a wide array of clients.
