Holland & Knight LLP has announced that Dianne Smith has joined the firm's Washington, DC office as a partner in the Public Policy & Regulation group and Telecommunications team.
Ms. Smith, a former communications executive and in-house counsel, provides legislative and regulatory counsel to clients in the telecommunications industry. She has significant experience related to the digital television transition, the carriage of local broadcast television stations by Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) carriers, and the most recent media ownership debate.
As in-house counsel to WRAL, the nation's first commercial digital television station and the first station to multi-cast and offer local content via mobile devices, Smith represented the company in all federal policy matters related to the digital television transition, media ownership, content regulation, and multichannel carriage issues.

Holland & Knight has announced that the law firm has recently established an endowed scholarship at Florida A&M University College of Law. The annual scholarship, the first of its kind at the law school, will provide the selected second-year law student with in-state tuition for one year as well as an offer of employment as a summer associate with the firm following the second year of law school. Each year, the scholarship Selection Committee at Florida A&M University College of Law will recommend a worthy candidate to Holland & Knight's review board.
