Women's Organization To Honor Ballard Spahr For Firm's Support

Tuesday, May 1, 2007 - 01:00

Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP will be the first-ever business to receive WOMEN'S WAY's prestigious Leadership Award for its 30-year history of support for the organization.

The award will be presented at the organization's 30th Annual Event on May 3 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Philadelphia City Center.

Each year WOMEN'S WAY presents its leadership award to a leader located in Southeastern Pennsylvania or Southern New Jersey, with an exemplary record of involvement with women's issues and a commitment to the mission and goals of WOMEN'S WAY. This is the first time in the history of the award that it is being presented to an organization. Past recipients have all been individuals.

Ballard Spahr's support of WOMEN'S WAY goes back to the organization's very start. Ernesta Ballard, philanthropist and wife of Ballard Spahr partner Frederic Ballard, enlisted the firm's assistance with forming the organization. Throughout the 30 years of this relationship, lawyers in every department in the firm have devoted pro bono hours to assist WOMEN'S WAY in its critical mission of serving women and families.

Lynn Axelroth, the first managing partner of Ballard Spahr's Philadelphia office, has worked on WOMEN'S WAY's matters for 25 years. "We benefit at least as much as WOMEN'S WAY does from our partnership with them," she said. "It is enormously rewarding knowing we are helping an underserved and deserving community of women and children."
