Akerman Welcomes Back Former In-House Counsel

Akerman Senterfitt recently welcomed back Michael Francis to the firm's Corporate practice.

Mr. Francis was an associate in the firm's Corporate group from 1997 through 2004. Since then he has served as deputy general counsel at Miami-based national homebuilder Lennar Corporation, a NYSE-listed, Fortune 200 company. At Lennar, Mr. Francis headed up the company's Securities and Corporate Governance Group and was responsible for the company's SEC filings and corporate governance matters, as well as legal oversight of the company's corporate financing.

Mr. Francis returns to Akerman's Miami office as of counsel, with a practice focused on securities, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law.

Akerman Senterfitt's real estate practice has facilitated one of the nation's largest build-to-suit leases of 2006.In a lease agreement signed in November, Boca 54 North LLC, a joint venture of the firm's clients Flagler Development Group and TIAA-CREF Global Real Estate Group, finalized an agreement with Office Depot to develop the company's new global headquarters.

Akerman Senterfitt real estate attorneys Eric Rapkin and Ronald Kriss led the deal negotiations for the landlord.

In 2006, Akerman significantly expanded its real estate practice with the acquisition of Wickwire Gavin, a nationally recognized construction law and government contracts boutique with office locations Virginia, Los Angeles and Wisconsin.
