The Hon. Sandra Schultz Newman, the first woman ever elected to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, has been tapped to head the rapidly growing nationwide Appellate practice at Cozen O'Connor. The appointment was effective January 1.

Justice Newman has served since 1995 on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Prior to that, Justice Newman was a judge for the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and was a practicing attorney in private practice and also served as the first female Assistant District Attorney in the Montgomery County District Attorney's office.

Justice Newman will be responsible for overseeing the firm's 50+ lawyer Appellate practice, which boasts more than 75 wins and over half a billion dollars in savings and verdicts for its international corporate clients over the past two years.

This move by Justice Newman further strengthens the leadership team at Cozen O'Connor. In July of last year, Lawrence T. Bowman and Ann Thornton Field were named chair and vice chair, respectively, of the firm's General Litigation department, and William P. Shelley was tapped to chair the Insurance department.
