The list of Pennsylvania Rising Stars, representing more than 60 practice areas, is published annually in the December issues of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers - Rising Stars Edition and Philadelphia Magazine. Lawyers selected represent the top 2.5 percent of up-and-coming attorneys in Pennsylvania.
Claire M. DeMatteis, director of Stradley Ronon's Wilmington, DE office, was recently appointed to the board of directors of DirectWomen - an initiative launched by the American Bar Association to increase gender equality in the boardroom, which statistics show are more than 85 percent male-dominated. As a member of the board, comprised of women from across the country, Ms. DeMatteis will help identify qualified female attorneys, as well as plan the program's annual training seminars, including the centerpiece of the initiative the DirectWomen Institute. This ABA initiative will be launched on March 28-30 in New York.
In addition to overseeing the firm's Delaware office, DeMatteis serves as of counsel in the firm's government and public affairs practice, focusing her practice in legislative and regulatory lobbying and business development in Delaware and Washington, DC. Ms. DeMatteis currently serves as chair of the Delaware Commission for Women, which is a position appointed by Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner.
Stradley Ronon attorney Kristin M. McKenna was recently awarded the Barbara W. Freedman Memorial Scholarship at the annual meeting of the Tax Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association. The scholarship fund honors the memory of Barbara W. Freedman, a partner at Duane Morris LLP and chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Tax Section. Ms. McKenna was selected for the scholarship as a Tax LL.M. student at Temple University Beasley School of Law who embodies Ms. Freedman's characteristics.
