Prior to the dinner, guests heard Patrick Burke, Assistant General Counsel of Guidance Software, who spoke on implementing enterprise-wide e-discovery platforms with law departments.
Mr. Burke was followed by John Rosenthal, Howry LLP partner, who stressed the need for law departments and their outside firms to become well acquainted with the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure which go into effect on December 1. Under the new guidelines e-discovery will be mandatory in every federal case.
The last speaker was Jennifer Ayers, Manager of Business Security-Americas for GE Commercial Finance, who manages her division's e-discovery technology. She discussed the importance of managing data both by using such a product as EnCase but also the need for human oversight.
