Leanne Stewart, an Australian attorney who previously served as general counsel to the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation, the governmental agency that regulates wine and brandy in Australia, has joined Nixon Peabody's Beverage Alcohol Team as a professional specialist. She will be based in Washington, DC and New York City.
Ms. Stewart brings extensive experience in international wine negotiations, having participated in negotiations for market access agreements for Australian wine throughout the European Community and with the World Wine Trade Group. She also served as Secretary of the Australian Wine Industry's International Trade Committee and the Corporation's Legislation Review Committee. Among Ms. Stewart's responsibilities were interpreting and amending the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Act and Regulations, as well as interpretation of international wine laws. She also had input into free trade agreements and the World Trade Organization accessions relevant to wine.
