Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP (K&LNG) recently welcomed Michael E. Waller as a litigation partner in the firm's Newark, NJ office.
Mr. Waller is a litigator with a focus on toxic tort defense, insurance coverage litigation and complex commercial litigation.
Kirkpatrick recently announced the launch of its Balanced Hours program, an innovative cornerstone of the firm's Professional and Personal Life Integration (PPLI) initiative that seeks to enhance client service while affording K&LNG lawyers greater flexibility in their working practices.
Under the Balanced Hours program, a lawyer in the firm's U.S. offices who demonstrates need arising from personal responsibilities outside the firm will be entitled to collaborate with firm leaders and administrators to develop pragmatic solutions, such as telecommuting, flexible hours and variable workloads. Where client service is maintained at the highest level of quality, the firm will embrace a presumption in favor of approving such proposals.
Jeannine Rupp, K&LNG's firmwide director of Professional and Personal Life Integration, said: "Our Balanced Hours program places the interests of clients first, but also acknowledges the highly responsible roles our lawyers have outside of the office. Our program is unique not only because of its scope, but also because we have a dedicated team responsible for implementing the program's various features, including coaching, training and networking."
Peter Kalis, chairman of K&LNG's Management Committee, commented: "We indulge a fiction in our profession that clients are served when young lawyers rotate in one door and out the other because they are unable to balance the demands of competing roles in modern society. At K&LNG, we intend to stop the bleeding, and our Balanced Hours program is a step in the right direction."
