Aurene Martin, a partner in Holland & Knight's federal Indian Law practice group, has been appointed marketing deputy section leader within the Government Section. Ms. Martin will serve in this advisory role in addition to her full-time practice of law in Washington, DC.
Ms. Martin focuses her practice on legislative and regulatory matters. Her areas of expertise include gaming, self-governance, education and other governmental matters.Former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs, she also served as Acting Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs for more than a year. Prior to joining the Department of the Interior, she was senior counsel to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs chaired by U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-CO), where she had a key role in developing legislation involving tribes.
A member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Ms. Martin is the third Native American woman to be made a partner in the firm.
Holland & Knight partner Edward F. Koren, who chairs the firm's Private Wealth Services Section. Has been named to Worth Magazine'sTop 100 Attorney's List. The list of top lawyers in the nation serving affluent individuals was published in the December 2005 issue of Worth Magazine.Mr. Koren's practice is heavily involved in estate planning and administration matters, particularly focusing on planning for executives and owners of closely held business interests, as well as the determination of the value of entities.
