Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP has announced that Lynn Rzonca, a partner in the Litigation Department, has been appointed managing partner of the Philadelphia office, effective January 1. Of the top 15 AmLaw firms in the Philadelphia region, Ballard is one of only three firms with a female managing partner in an office.
Ballard continues its longstanding tradition of promoting women to leadership positions in the firm by appointing Ms. Rzonca to this position. In January 1998, the firm broke ranks with other law firms when it named Lynn Axelroth, one of the nation's most notable female real estate lawyers, to the post of managing partner of its Philadelphia office.
Ms. Rzonca, an intellectual property lawyer and Chicago native, joined Ballard in October 2000. She was a partner with major Chicago firm Schiff Hardin and spent her first year in Philadelphia as attorney advisor to Third Circuit Chief Judge Anthony Scirica in his role as chair of the Federal Judiciary Rules Committees. After joining Ballard, Ms. Rzonca resumed her significant intellectual property litigation practice and became a partner in July 2005.
Ms. Rzonca represents clients in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, trade secrets, and copyright litigation. She is also a registered patent attorney. Recent representations include Exelon Corporation, Newell Rubbermaid, and The Risk Management Association.
Ballard Spahr announced that 19 lawyers were recently named "Pennsylvania Rising Stars" byPhiladelphia Magazine . Only 2.5 percent of Pennsylvania attorneys receive this honor each year.
