Carl D. Smallwood, a partner with the Ohio-based law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, was recently named President of the Metropolitan Bar Caucus of the National Conference of Bar Presidents of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Smallwood, a past president of the Columbus Bar Association, has been a member of the Metropolitan Bar Caucus Executive Committee since 2001. The Caucus consists of metropolitan and county bar associations (with more than 1,000 members) from across the nation.
The mission of the Metropolitan Bar Caucus is to serve the interests and address the concerns of major metropolitan bar associations throughout the United States. The caucus functions as a clearinghouse for best practices for bar associations throughout the United States.
Mr. Smallwood focuses his legal practice on litigation, arbitration and mediation of employment-related injury, wrongful termination, professional negligence and commercial disputes. His substantial jury trial experience includes: professional negligence actions, serious personal injury and death claims, toxic exposure claims and employment tort claims. Mr. Smallwood appears throughout Ohio representing self-insured and state-funded employers in the defense of intentional tort and retaliatory discharge litigation arising under the Ohio Workers' Compensation Act. He serves as trial counsel to several companies defending asbestos products liability litigation pending in Ohio courts.
