The international law firm Coudert Brothers LLP has announced the appointment of New York corporate partner Barry Metzger to the Advisory Board of the Hills Program on Governance at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
The Hills Program is an initiative of Roderick M. Hills, who served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1975-77.
The Hills Program seeks to develop an actionable agenda that promotes good governance at the intersection of private and public sectors, confronting corruption and encouraging accountability. To improve governance in emerging markets, the Hills Program has established centers at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea and at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, Philippines and is pursuing additional centers in East Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Mr. Metzger joins, among others, on the Advisory Board, the Hon. William Webster, former Director of the FBI and CIA; the Hon. Richard Thornburgh, former Attorney General of the United States and former Governor of Pennsylvania, and the Hon. Stuart Eizenstat, former Under Secretary of State and Treasury.
Mr. Metzger will also co-chair a two-day seminar sponsored by the Hills Program on Governance on Shareholder Activism in Asia, to be hosted at the Hills Governance Center at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila in July 2005.
Mr. Metzger has been actively involved in international corporate governance reforms since his service as General Counsel of the Asian Development Bank from 1994 to 1999.
Mr. Metzger focuses his practice on cross-border financial transactions and acquisitions in the emerging markets, in particular in the Asia-Pacific region.
