Proskauer Rose LLP has announced that Howard Shapiro, long recognized as one of the "deans"of the ERISA litigation bar, and a team of senior attorneys have joined the firm, further expanding Proskauer's national employee benefits and ERISA litigation practice.
The New Orleans-based group created Proskauer's second new office last year, following Boston, which opened in March.
Mr. Shapiro and his colleagues focus on defending national and global employers on a wide variety of sophisticated ERISA issues.
Proskauer Rose also has announced that it has expanded its national and international corporate transactional and private equity practices with the addition of seven new partners to its Boston office, which has grown to nearly 60 attorneys in less than 10 months.
The new partners, Daniel Finkelman, Robin Painter, David Tegeler, Stephen Mears, Malcolm Nicholls, Mary Kuusisto and Arnold May, were formerly partners in the Boston office of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP.
The new partners in Proskauer's Boston office have joined the firm's corporate and tax practices.
Proskauer Rose served as co-counsel for Larry Silverstein, who recently won a favorable verdict in the World Trade Center insurance coverage trial. The jury determined that the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center should be treated as two occurrences, enabling Mr. Silverstein to recover an additional $1.1 billion from his property insurers above the limit for a single occurrence.
