The firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP has announced the opening of a new office in Shanghai in the Peoples Republic of China.

Steven Xiang will be joining the firm as managing partner of the Shanghai office.

The Shanghai office will initially focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and international securities offerings. Bill Sievers, the partner responsible for leading Weil Gotshal's expansion in Asia, will be relocating from Singapore to join Mr. Xiang in the Shanghai office.

Mr. Xiang has extensive experience in private placements and public offerings of securities, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture investments, joint ventures and corporate restructurings, as well as general corporate and business advice. For 10 years, he practiced while residing first in New York, subsequently in Hong Kong and now in Shanghai.

Mr. Sievers is a New York qualified corporate and securities partner who prior to relocating to Singapore practiced in the firm's New York, Warsaw and London offices. He is the managing partner of the firm's Singapore and Asian Regional practice.

Weil Gotshal also has announced that Alexander J. Hadis has joined the firm as a partner to lead the expansion of the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation practice in the Washington, DC office.
