Sills Cummis Epstein & Gross P.C. has announced that Peter G. Verniero, former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice, has joined the firm as of counsel. He will co-chair the Corporate Internal Investigations and Business Crimes Practice Group. He also will chair the firm's Appellate Practice Group.

"We are delighted that Peter has chosen to join Sills Cummis Epstein & Gross in an important role," said Steven E. Gross, co-chair of the firm and managing partner. "At just 45, he combines tremendous energy and integrity with a record of accomplishment rare in an attorney of any age. Most jurists retire with their private sector experience a dim memory, but not so with Peter.

"The respect that he has earned in the legal community as a jurist, coupled with his background as attorney general, chief counsel and chief of staff to the governor during the Whitman administration, leaves him singularly prepared to join us."

Lawrence S. Horn, a member of the firm, along with Mr. Verniero, will serve as co-chair of the Corporate Internal Investigations and Business Crimes Practice Group.

"Sills Cummis Epstein & Gross exemplifies all that I was looking for in a firm" Mr. Verniero said. "It is a national law firm with New Jersey roots and its client base includes some of the largest companies in the world. The firm's work in the expanded practice area of internal corporate investigations especially attracted me."

Mr. Verniero noted that the practice group consists of more than a half-dozen former federal prosecutors, Justice Department and IRS attorneys.
