Proskauer Rose LLP has announced it has formed a new Law Firm Advisory Practice Group, which will provide full-service representation to law firms. The group includes a substantial number of lawyers from the firm's labor, corporate and litigation departments who have extensive experience representing and advising law firms in employment matters, ethical issues, partnership disputes, litigation and other situations.

Proskauer chair Alan Jaffe said, "Proskauer's experience in handling partnership disputes, risk management, malpractice actions, ethical issues, partnership structuring, employment law and counseling make the firm especially qualified to advise other law firms encountering problems in these areas."

The group will be co-chaired by partner Steven C. Krane, former president of the New York State Bar Association, and counsel David N. Ellenhorn.

With the dramatic growth in law firm size, and the mobility of rainmakers and lawyers generally, law firms are increasingly facing disputes among partners or with departing lawyers. Proskauer has long been active in litigating partnership disputes in the business arena and more recently has represented numerous law firms in connection with departing members. This counseling has involved private resolution of partnership issues and, in some cases, court litigation or arbitration. Proskauer has been retained frequently to advise firms before such disputes have erupted into litigation and has successfully negotiated amicable resolutions.
