Holland & Knight LLP partner Marilyn J. Holifield has been recognized as a top attorney by two publications, Chambers USA - America's Leading Lawyers 2004-2005 and Florida Trend's Florida Legal Elite.
Inclusion in these publications is selective and determined by results of independent surveys. Chambers USA, the American counterpart of the established Chambers Global - The World's Leading Lawyers, reflects market opinion through a year's worth of surveys of clients and lawyers across the United States. It is one in a series of Chambers & Partners independent, objective and research-based guides to the legal profession. Florida Legal Elite names the top 846 lawyers as voted on by their peers in a statewide poll of practicing attorneys. This group represents the top 1.6 percent of the 54,135 Florida Bar members who practice in the state.
Ms. Holifield, who is based in the firm's Miami office, focuses her practice on business and employment litigation, trade secrets, covenants-not-to- compete and class action litigation. She regularly defends employers in litigation involving wrongful termination cases brought as intentional torts, breach of contract, whistleblower and civil rights discrimination actions. She also counsels and represents employers before local, state and federal agencies, including the EEOC, in cases involving the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Americans With Disabilities Act, Title VII and other local, state and federal employment statutes.
Ms. Holifield is the co-leader of the firm's Caribbean Initiative, and was named the 2000 Chesterfield Smith Lawyer, the highest honor the firm awards to a lawyer. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami, the Board of Directors of the Harvard Alumni Association, and the Board of Directors of the Miami Performing Arts Center Foundation. She was recently named by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of America's top lawyers.
