Winston & Strawn LLP continues growth in San Francisco with the addition of real estate lawyer Stephen I. Berkman, a partner in the real estate practice.
The trend of growth for Winston & Strawn began with last year's merger with local insolvency firm Murphy, Sheneman, Julian & Rogers. At the end of last year, partners Charles S. Birenbaum and Jeffrey S. Bosley also joined Winston, boosting the international profile and capabilities of the Labor and Employment practice and serving as a complement to the firm's growing Los Angeles office.
Mr. Berkman has represented numerous tenants and landlords in the negotiation and disposition of office and other types of leases in San Francisco, the Silicon Valley and throughout the country for such clients as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Inc., and Yahoo! Inc. He worked closely with Westfield America, Inc. in its recent joint venture to acquire and develop the Westfield's mixed use retail and office development in downtown San Francisco.On page 20 of this issue,Mr. Berkman describes the use of interdisciplinary teamsin Winston & Strawn's growing real estate practice.
Winston & Strawn also has announced the continuation of its West Coast growth spurt with the addition of partners Andrew P. Bridges and John C. Nishi, who joined the litigation and intellectual property practices from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.
Mr. Bridges, a well-known litigator with a prominent intellectual property practice, founded Wilson Sonsini's trademarks and advertising practice group, which he grew to national prominence. He has been lead counsel in a variety of notable intellectual property cases including defense of Diamond Multimedia Systems in the landmark case against the Recording Industry Association of America in its quest to ban the distribution of the Rio MP3 player.
Mr. Nishi focuses his practice on representing consumer products and technology clients including counseling more than 300 clients in trademark, advertising and copyright matters, and managing their international trademark portfolios.
