Holland & Knight LLP has announced that Peter M. Murphy. former general counsel to the United States Marine Corps (USMC). and Thomas A. Hart Jr.. who Industry Standard magazine recently referred to as an "architect of the Internet." have joined the firm as partners in the Washington. DC office.

For the past 20 years. Mr. Murphy has served as the principal advisor to the USMC on issues encompassing international relations. community outreach. major weapons systems acquisition. complex investigations affecting national and Marine Corps interests. commercial legal issues (including base closures and legal aspects of homeland security). and environmental litigation and legislation. Mr. Murphy served as senior legal advisor to the Marine Corps. and also advised on all corporate matters as a member of the Commandant's Executive Board.

Mr. Hart brings extensive knowledge of the telecommunications industry. with particular emphasis on legislative and lobbying issues. global development projects. e-commerce and Internet technologies. and mergers and acquisitions. His clients include broadcast. cable. satellite. common carrier and wireless communications services. Mr. Hart was instrumental in helping draft federal and state regulations governing the telecommunications industry. including the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Holland & Knight also has announced that Michael A. Abel has joined the firm as a partner in the Jacksonville. FL office.

Mr. Abel brings considerable experience in complex litigation matters.
