Jones Day has announced that Jeffrey D. Symons has joined the firm's New York Office as a partner in its M&A Practice. He was previously a partner in the Corporate practice at Kirkland & Ellis in New York.

Symons' practice focuses on high-profile public and private M&A, including hostile transactions, and corporate governance, both in respect of shareholder activism and the representation of special committees in related-party transactions. He has practiced across a variety of sectors, including healthcare and pharmaceutical, information services, transportation and air freight services, insurance and reinsurance, telecommunications, media and entertainment, manufacturing, and retail.

Some of Symons' most significant deals include his work on behalf of Teva Pharmaceutical in connection with its $6.8 billion acquisition of Cephalon, for which he was named one of the "Dealmakers of the Year" in 2011 by The American Lawyer. Other representative transactions include advising Pfizer in connection with its $635 million acquisition of the marketed vaccines portfolio of Baxter International, Hess in the sale of its retail business to Speedway for $2.8 billion, and Blackstone Group in its $26 billion acquisition proposal for Dell.
