Friday, September 26, 2014 - 12:51

UBIC, Inc., a leading provider of international litigation support and big-data analysis services brought together industry experts for one of its UBIC Signature Seminars to discuss, How Evolving Big Data Can Enable Information Governance Opportunities.

This event was held in New York City at the Princeton Club on Friday, September 19, 2014, and kicked off with the keynote speaker, the world-renowned Laura Zubulake, whose landmark case served as the groundwork of E-Discovery and an early example of information governance. Laura shared many insights on data as we now know it and the many resulting layers affecting information governance.

Jay Brudz, chair, Information Governance & eDiscovery Group, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, presented on Big Data and Information Governance: Enabling Big Data Projects by Applying IG Use Cases. Jay's open forum allowed for a lively discussion on the topic, with many use case examples and how it is important to identify, preserve, extract and release data in E-Discovery cases.

UBIC's counsel and chief global risk officer, Paul Starrett, esq., rounded out the program with his discussion on Utilization of Legally Defensible Technology to Position your Organization to Meet IG Requirements. Paul focused on why organizations today should have effective information governance policies and procedures to handle the ever- increasing big data challenges modern enterprises require. The data universe will be 44 times larger in 2020 than it was in 2010, so corporations are looking for cost-efficient and well-scoped solutions for their internal investigations, regulatory disputes, compliance needs and litigation requirements that pose huge corporate threats when best practices are not in place.

Sasha Hefler, senior director of strategic communications, UBIC North America, Inc. shared, "It was really exciting to see the NYC UBIC's Signature Fall Seminar really turn into a well-recognized educational resource for corporate legal departments. The dynamics and continuous flow of conversation during the speaking sessions set this seminar apart from most E-Discovery conferences in the industry today."

UBIC will hold its next Signature Seminar Event in San Francisco on December 5. For more information please contact Sasha Hefler.
