Akin Gump today announced that Michael E. Drobac has joined the firm as a senior policy advisor in its public law and policy practice. He comes to the firm from Patton Boggs.
Mr. Drobac assists clients from the technology and telecommunications sectors with their public policy objectives as well as on the development of strategic messaging and the execution of outreach strategies. He previously worked as head of government affairs for two different technology-related organizations — Netflix and the Online Publishers Association — and served in a senior role at a third, IAC/InterActiveCorp. Prior to his tenure in the private sector, Mr. Drobac served for nearly 10 years in the offices of three U.S. senators.
Mr. Drobac began his public policy career on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant to former Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.). Upon completion of law school, he returned to Washington to work first as legislative counsel to former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and then as legislative director to former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.). Immediately before joining Patton Boggs in 2012, Mr. Drobac founded an Internet startup to address chronic disease through lead generation and gamification.
