Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and Navigant co-hosted the first event in a five-part speaker series called PowerUP – Energy Thought Leaders Quarterly Forum. The first program was held on December 5, 2013 in Chicago, IL on the topic of Commercializing Energy Resources.
The PowerUP event featured Jason Blumberg, CEO and managing director of Energy Foundry, an evergreen high impact venture fund created as part of the Illinois Smart Grid law that supports early stage energy-tech companies with capital and other support.
Mr. Blumberg spoke about the emerging energy-tech start-up community. “Illinois has world class R&D, top Fortune 500 companies, great advanced manufacturing and some of the best business minds in the country; but there remains the challenge in how we get great energy-tech ideas out of the labs and up to commercial scale,” said Blumberg. “The solution is to create an ecosystem of support for these companies that includes everything from grid-testing platforms, turnkey back office support, technical mentoring, as well as advice on navigating the federal energy grants system.”
“The PowerUP program series was created to develop a high-level thought leadership discussions centered around the most pressing topics within the energy industry,” said Hank Kelly, managing partner of the Chicago Office of Kelley, Drye & Warren LLP. “In the coming years, Chicago is uniquely positioned to take a leadership role in bringing together some of the country’s foremost energy resources and thought leaders.”
“Navigant is proud to co-sponsor the PowerUP series alongside Kelley Drye,” said Michael A. Rutkowski, a Chicago-based managing director with Navigant’s Energy Practice. “Our intention in creating the PowerUP event was to bring together some of the Midwest region’s most strategic thinkers – including C-level executives, in-house counsel from Midwest-based energy companies, investors in energy companies and emerging companies – to share in the discussion.
The PowerUP speaker series is supported by an Advisory Board consisting of some of the Midwest’s most prominent industry leaders:
