Richard E. Wiley Receives Prestigious 2013 “Giants Of Broadcasting” Award; Richard Beaird Discusses Internet Governance

On October 16, Wiley Rein Chairman Richard E. Wiley was honored by the Library of American Broadcasting, which named him one of its 2013 Giants of Broadcasting.  In a special ceremony at New York City’s Gotham Hall, Mr. Wiley joined 10 honorees in celebration of their “distinguished leadership or performance in television and radio” – Anne Sweeney, Alex Trebek, Barry Diller, Morley Safer, Dick Cavett, Jeff Smulyan, Robert L. Johnson, David E. Kelley, Richard Leibner, and Carole Cooper.

Richard C. Beaird, a senior international policy advisor in Wiley Rein’s International Telecommunications Practice, discussed the growing challenges for Internet governance during a presentation on October 10 at the Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA) in Boston (Oct. 6-11, 2013).  Dr. Beaird – former Senior U.S. Deputy Coordinator for International Telecommunications and Information Policy, and Office Director for Multilateral Affairs in the Department of State’s Office of International Communications and Information Policy – was part of a distinguished panel of international telecommunications professionals participating in a session entitled, “‘How the net was won’ or ‘don’t shoot the messenger’ – Internet 2.0: to regulate or not to regulate.”
