Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. has announced that Alexandra L. Larkin, a first-year student at Rutgers School of Law – Newark, has been selected as the firm’s 2013 Charles J. Walsh Scholar. In 2006, Sills Cummis & Gross established the Scholarship Fund on behalf of the family, friends and colleagues of the late Judge Charles J. Walsh who, prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County, was a valued Member of the Firm for 17 years. Judge Walsh was also an adjunct professor at the law school.
Ms. Larkin was chosen for her academic promise and leadership qualities. Ms. Larkin stated that she decided to pursue law as a career “because I wanted to work in a challenging field that would allow me to pursue my dual interests in Political Science and Biology. I look forward to learning from the skilled attorneys at Sills Cummis & Gross and to exploring a wide variety of areas of legal practice during my time here. I am extremely honored to be the 2013 Charles J. Walsh Scholar, and I am very excited for this unique, hands-on experience." Ms. Larkin received a B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Biology, cum laude, from Bucknell University in 2012. While at Bucknell University, she took part in the NYU Florence program for a semester, studying in Florence, Italy.
The Charles J. Walsh Scholar Fund will provide financial and other assistance to Ms. Larkin in the form of scholarship support, summer internship stipends, mentorship during law school and career guidance.
Max Crane, managing partner, stated, “Our commitment to the New Jersey law school community continues with our seventh Charles J. Walsh Scholar. Mentoring young law students enriches the Firm as a whole and we are pleased to welcome Alexandra as a first year law clerk this summer. It’s something that Chuck would have heartily endorsed.” Ronald K. Chen, acting dean of Rutgers School of Law – Newark, added, “We very much appreciate the generosity of Sills Cummis & Gross in supporting the legacy of Chuck Walsh and are delighted that Alexandra, a student of much talent and promise, has been selected as the 2013 Charles J. Walsh Scholar.”
