Lawyers Alliance for New York is pleased to announce the release of the new edition of its signature publication, Advising Nonprofits. Now in its fifth edition, this 531-page publication provides the most comprehensive road map available for identifying legal issues encountered by New York nonprofit staff, board members and the attorneys who advise them.
The nation’s oldest and largest provider of pro bono business law services to nonprofit organizations, Lawyers Alliance is offering one of its core publications in electronic form for the first time. “We hope to increase the usefulness of Advising Nonprofits by making it available in both printed and PDF versions,” noted Lawyers Alliance executive director and advising co-editor Sean Delany. “As a resource for New York City's nonprofit and business and transactional pro bono legal communities, we strive to provide effective tools to strengthen the work of the sector.”
Advising Nonprofits offers insight into key legal issues relating to corporate governance and structuring, contracts, regulatory compliance, fundraising, personnel management, lobbying and political activity, intellectual property, and revenue-generating activities. This new edition includes many legal and practical developments from the past decade. Extensive appendices contain model documents and practical checklists and charts, allowing nonprofits and their attorneys to easily and directly apply these concepts to their operations.
Co-editor and Lawyers Alliance senior staff attorney Elizabeth Perez commented, “This updated publication aims to guide nonprofit leaders and their attorneys through the core principles of nonprofit regulation. It will also help identify areas where more in-depth legal counsel is needed.”
Advising Nonprofits is available for purchase as a bound printed copy ($100) and as both an individual use ($100) and site license ($200) PDF download. The electronic versions include linked table of contents, an index and websites. Please visit Lawyers Alliance's website at www.lawyersalliance.org/publications.php for more information.
