Pennsylvania Gov. Corbett Appoints William R. Sasso Chair Of PA Infrastructure And Investment Authority

October 11, 2012 - Stradley Ronon Chairman William R. Sasso has been designated by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to serve as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure and Investment Authority (PENNVEST). 

“Bill Sasso has earned the admiration and respect of government and business leaders in both southeastern Pennsylvania and across the state,” Gov. Corbett said in a statement. “I am confident that Bill will serve Pennsylvania with honor and distinction as chairman of PENNVEST.”

PENNVEST funds sewer, stormwater and drinking water projects with low-cost financial assistance throughout the state. PENNVEST funding also helps businesses to locate and expand their operations in Pennsylvania to create permanent, well-paying jobs.

Mr. Sasso has served as chairman of Stradley Ronon’s 200-plus-attorney firm since 1994. In addition, he is widely recognized for his civic accomplishments, including but not limited to serving as former chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors; a commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority; a trustee of his alma mater LaSalle University; and as a trustee of Leo Niessen Jr. Charitable Foundation.

October 12, 2012 - Stradley Ronon attorney Carolina C. DiGiorgio has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Pan-American Academy Charter School in Philadelphia. The charter school is an independent, free, public K-8 charter school that prepares students for a successful future by promoting academic excellence through rigorous instruction, bilingualism, the integration of cultural awareness and respect throughout all aspects of the curriculum.

As a member of Stradley Ronon’s business practice group, Ms. DiGiorgio focuses on real estate, banking and financial services, nonprofit and religious organizations and other general corporate matters. She serves on the firm’s Hiring Committee and Diversity Group, as a member of the Philadelphia Facilities Task Force and as a Board Member of Congreso, a Pennsylvania non-profit organization. Ms. DiGiorgio also serves on Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs (GACLA).

October 15, 2012 - Stradley Ronon partner Steven B. Davis spoke at the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance conference on Alternative Dispute Resolution & Alternative Fee Arrangements on Sept. 21 in Philadelphia. Mr. Davis was part of a panel that discussed “Ethical and Bad Faith Considerations of Alternative Fee Arrangements, Do They Create Conflicts Between Clients and Attorneys?” The conference featured industry experts who provided practical knowledge in creating AFAs, understanding ethical considerations and addressing best practices and potential stumbling blocks.

As chair of the firm’s insurance practice group, Mr. Davis represents property & casualty, liability and health insurers and intermediaries in regulatory, litigation and government affairs matters, and also provides counsel to insurance regulators in enforcement, policy and transactional matters.

September 28, 2012 - Stradley Ronon partner Mark E. Chopko spoke at a Catholic Business Network of Northern Virginia (CBN-NV) breakfast on Sept. 6 in Alexandria, Va. Mr. Chopko shared insights from his years as general counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and reflected on the ways in which the Catholic Church has engaged controversial public policy issues to express its teachings.

CBN-NV is an independent, nonprofit organization of businesses and individual professionals who come together to represent community interests and advance Catholic morality, values and ethics in the workplace and in the community.
Mr. Chopko is chair of Stradley Ronon’s nonprofit and religious organizations practice group and advises clients in matters including structural, business, governance, regulatory and complex litigation. Mr. Chopko participated in more than 30 Supreme Court cases as counsel for religious groups in friend-of-the-Court briefs. He is also nationally known for his work on the tort liability of nonprofit entities and the rights of religious organizations against government encroachment. In addition, Mr. Chopko is an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University where he teaches a seminar on church-state law.

October 4, 2012 - Stradley Ronon partner Andrew K. Stutzman will serve as a co-panelist for the “Consumer Credit Market” presentation at the 2012 Credit Union Attorneys Conference, presented by the PA Credit Union Association in Harrisburg, Pa., on Oct. 5. The conference is geared for attorneys representing or planning to represent credit unions.

As chair of the firm’s mortgage & lending litigation practice, Mr. Stutzman oversees a team of lawyers who represent financial services and other clients in litigation involving consumer and commercial loan transactions.
