McCarter & English LLP has announced that executive committee member and practice group leader of the firm’s Insurance Coverage group, Sherilyn Pastor, has been appointed policyholder chair of the American Bar Association’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee for its Section of Litigation. She will serve in this role for one year and will maintain her practice at McCarter.
The appointment recognizes Ms. Pastor’s achievement “as one of the nation’s leading litigators in [her] field,” said section chair William R. Bay in his appointment letter. The Section of Litigation Leadership has “worked hard to appoint leaders throughout the Section who are committed to expanding our benefits to members and to help them be better lawyers. We have an ambitious agenda planned for the coming year and [Sheri] will be an important part of the Section's success.”
In this role, Ms. Pastor will lead the coordination and implementation of recruitment, programming and professional development initiatives for the Section and its Insurance Coverage and Litigation Committee. She will also attend leadership, Section and ICLC meetings as well as contribute to strategic planning for future years.
“Sheri has a long record of leadership at McCarter,” said Stephen M. Vajtay, Jr., firmwide managing partner of McCarter & English. “Her dedication to clients and the insurance coverage legal profession is exemplary. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition of her ongoing commitment to the ABA.”
As the practice group leader of McCarter’s Insurance Coverage Group, Ms. Pastor oversees a team of over 30 attorneys while also maintaining an active practice in which she provides legal assistance to corporate policyholders.
Ms. Pastor has secured hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance assets for a broad range of policyholder clients. She litigates complex coverage matters throughout the country and provides insurance coverage advice to clients, assessing their potential risks, analyzing new insurance products and considering the adequacy of their programs.
In addition to her practice work, Ms. Pastor serves on the editorial board of the Insurance Coverage Law Bulletin and is a consultant on the New Appleman Insurance Law Practice Guide. She was the policyholder vice-chair of the ABA Litigation Section's Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee from 2009 to 2012 and has been co-chair of various ABA Insurance Coverage Committees since 2002. She is a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court's Professional Responsibility Rules Committee, and she publishes and lectures frequently on insurance, trial skills and ethics matters.
