McCarter & English, LLP has announced that firm partner and retired brigadier general William S. Greenberg has received the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
The medal is the second highest award presented by the U.S. Secretary of Defense to civilians for contributions to the Department of Defense. Mr. Greenberg, who serves as chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, accepted the medal at a ceremony in the Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon in July.
In conjunction with McCarter & English, he established and chaired the New Jersey State Bar Association's Military Legal Assistance Program. It provides free legal services to New Jersey residents who have served overseas as active duty members of reserve components of the armed forces in Iraq or Afghanistan since September 11, 2001. Together with his colleagues at McCarter, Mr. Greenberg has represented more than 50 individual soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center during Medical Evaluation Board/Physical Evaluation Board proceedings.
