Jones Day has announced that Gerald P. Farano has joined the Washington office as partner and Danielle M. Varnell as of counsel. Focusing on energy industry transactions, both were with Winston & Strawn LLP, where Mr. Farano headed the Washington office corporate group.
Mr. Farano has advised energy clients with respect to domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and development projects. His experience includes the sale and purchase of renewable, fossil fuel, and nuclear generation assets, including over 4000 MW of wind generation, 1000 MW of solar generation, 4000 MW of nuclear generation, and 2500 MW of fossil fuel generation assets having an aggregate value over $20 billion.
Ms. Varnell concentrates on corporate transactions in the energy industry, including domestic and international mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and development projects involving renewable, fossil fuel, and nuclear generation.

Bruce W. Raphael, an M&A lawyer focused on the financial services, insurance, and life sciences industries, has joined the Boston office as a partner. Mr. Raphael chaired the firmwide M&A and Banking Practice groups at his former firm, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP.
