The United Kingdom based Black Solicitor's Network (BSN), the Dallas Diversity Task Force (DDTF) and the Houston Multi-Bar Diversity Committee (HMBDC) have released their latest reports assessing the diversity accomplishments of major law firms in their respective regions. Both the DDTF and the HMBDC reports ranked Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP first for law firm diversity, and BSN ranked Weil's London office in the top ten for both "Most Ethnically Diverse" and "Most LGB Friendly."
Weil topped the rankings in the Dallas report for the fourth consecutive year, achieving the only composite score above 70 among all the surveyed firms. Weil also achieved the top score and the only A+ awarded in the Houston report. This year's BSN Diversity League Table ranks Weil's London office second for "Most Ethnically Diverse" with 14.29 percent minority partners, and ninth for "Most LGB Friendly" in a close competition.
The BSN's Diversity League Table is one of the legal profession's leading diversity reporting publications and offers diversity profiles of many major UK firms.
The 2010 DDTF report measured the racial and ethnic diversity of lawyers practicing at the largest 20 law firms in Dallas County. Firms' composite scores were based on a firm's number of minority attorneys, depth (i.e., number of equity partners versus other attorneys) and breadth (i.e., diversity across minority groups).
The Dallas Diversity Task Force is composed of representatives from the Dallas Asian American Bar Association, the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association and the J.L. Turner Legal Association (the African American bar association of Dallas County). A copy of the 2010 Dallas Law Firm Diversity Report may be found on the Dallas Diversity Task Force website, www.diversitytaskforce.com.
The latest HMBDC report was based on a survey conducted last year of the racial and ethnic makeup of the 25 largest law firms in Houston.
Law360, the business newswire owned by Portfolio Media, Inc., has recognized Weil, Gotshal & Manges's Corporate Department and Business Finance & Restructuring Department with its 2010 Group of the Year accolade. Law360's Corporate Finance Group of the Year is awarded to the top five firms whose work covered "closely watched, complex and innovative transactions." The newswire's Bankruptcy Group of the Year accolade was given to the top five firms "that did the hard work behind the headlines in 2010's big-dollar bankruptcies, whether it was for debtors or their creditors."
Weil earned the 2010 Corporate Finance Group of the Year on the strength of the firm's work on a variety of transactional matters, including the recapitalization of General Growth Properties (GGP) and its work on several high-profile mergers and financings. Other notable 2010 representations include General Electric and NBC Universal in their joint venture with Comcast, Microsoft Corporation's first public debt offering, and private equity-backed Univision Communications, the leading Spanish-language broadcaster, in the $1.2 billion investment by Grupo Televisa, Mexico's top TV broadcaster. Leading news and information companies, including Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg, routinely list Weil among the top ten law firms in Corporate Finance and M&A. Thomson Reuters listed Weil as the world's leading M&A firm in 2010 in the real estate and media industries.
