McCarter & English is pleased to announce that Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell has appointed Thomas J. Rechen the Chair of the Public Defender Services Commission.
Mr. Rechen will complete the term of Carl D. Eisenmann, which concludes on December 20, 2010, and will then serve a full three-year term concluding December 20, 2013. He received the appointment on November 17.
Mr. Rechen is a partner in the Hartford office of McCarter & English. He is an accomplished trial lawyer and business litigator with over two decades of experience handling commercial disputes on behalf of public and private companies in Connecticut and across the nation. He is the immediate past chair of the Connecticut Bar Association's Litigation Section. He also presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Hartford County Bar Association. Mr. Rechen's practice includes the full range of complex civil litigation matters - intellectual property, trade secret, business tort, restrictive covenant, trade regulation and unfair competition claims.
The commission is a seven-member panel that oversees the Division of Public Defender Services, a state agency with a mission to provide legal representation in accordance with both the United States and Connecticut constitutions to any person charged with the commission of a crime in Connecticut who does not have the financial ability to hire an attorney.
