Suren E. Gortsunyan will join Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Moscow as a partner in the international corporate transactions practice, the firm announced today.
Mr. Gortsunyan advises both Russian and Western companies on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings. His clients include companies in the real estate, retail/consumer, telecommunications, oil services, financial services and industrial sectors.
Mr. Gortsunyan received his LL.B. in 1997 and his diploma specialist in jurisprudence in 1998 from the Russian Law Academy. He joins the firm from Hogan Lovells, where he was a partner.
Mr. Gortsunyan is the fifth partner to join Akin Gump's corporate practice in recent months, following Ilya Rybalkin (Moscow), Dino Barajas and Elliot Hinds (Los Angeles) and Chadi Salloum (Abu Dhabi).
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has promoted Ying Z. White to partner. Ms. White leads the firm's investment funds practice in its Beijing office.
Ms. White advises Asia- and China-focused private equity and hedge funds on their establishment and operation in Greater China, Chinese sovereign wealth funds and state-owned banks on their outbound investments, and Chinese and international institutional investors on their investments in the public market and in private funds worldwide.Ms. White also focuses on RMB fund formation and related regulatory issues and on Sino-foreign joint venture investment vehicles.
Extensively involved in legislative and regulatory developments in China's evolving private equity and hedge fund industry, Ms. White is an advisor to the Beijing government's Financial Affairs Bureau and the Beijing Private Equity Association on RMB funds and private equity regulations.She speaks and writes frequently on RMB funds, QDII, QFII and emerging markets private equity.She also serves as an international legal expert on the loan review committee of a major Chinese state bank.
Before joining Akin Gump in 2007, Ms. White led a team at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., advising on the investment of the World Bank's pension fund.
Ms. White was named among the leading investment funds lawyers in Asia by Asialaw Leading Lawyers (2010) and as one of the leading women in China in private equity and venture capital by China Venture magazine.
