Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has announced the expansion of its litigation practice with the arrival of Douglas A. Rappaport as a partner in New York.
For nearly two decades, Mr. Rappaport has litigated complex commercial and securities disputes. He has particular experience in disputes involving securities fraud, insider trading, breach of fiduciary obligations, limited partnership interests, tender offers, proxy contests, accountant's liability, insurance, corporate governance, trade secrets, tax appraisals and bond defaults. He has extensive experience with class actions and investigations involving the SEC and other regulatory bodies.
In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Rappaport regularly advises investment funds and other public and private companies on issues involving corporate governance, insider trading, market manipulation, corporate compliance, securities regulation, fiduciary duty and fund formation. He also advises on activist investing issues, including the devising of strategies regarding the solicitation of board seats, the displacement of existing corporate management and contests for corporate control. His clients include hedge funds; investment and merchant banks; accountants, insurers and sureties; and companies in the hospitality, aviation, telecommunications and multimedia industries.
Mr. Rappaport is one of four litigation partners to join Akin Gump this year, after Dianne B. Elderkin, Barbara L. Mullin and Steven D. Maslowski.
