International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that the firm has elected three new partners. The appointments will become effective January 1, 2010. At the same time, the Firm appointed six attorneys as counsel.

Weil Gotshal retired partner Robert G. Sugarman has been elected the National Chair of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). His three-year term began at the ADL's Annual Meeting held on October 31, 2009.
The national chairmanship, a position with high visibility nationally and internationally, recognizes Mr. Sugarman's decades of work on behalf of the ADL and its principles of fighting anti-Semitism and securing justice and fair treatment for all. A litigator at Weil Gotshal, Mr. Sugarman's professional career encompassed a broad range of intellectual property and First Amendment matters, and his pro bono activities have continually reflected his commitment to promoting anti-discrimination and free speech for all.
Mr. Sugarman has long been active in community and philanthropic work. He was previously a vice-chair of the ADL and was honored at the 2003 annual dinner of its New York Lawyers Division. He is a past president of Hillel of New York and served as a member of the executive committee of the Lawyers Division of UJA/Federation of New York.
