Haynes and Boone Attorneys Appointed To Texas Commission

Two Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers have been named to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, the powerful 12-member panel that advises the legislature whether state agencies should be continued or phased out.

Partners Rafael Anchia of the Dallas office of Haynes and Boone and Lamont Jefferson of San Antonio were among the new house-appointed commission members announced this week by Speaker Joe Straus, R-San Antonio. Members serve four-year terms.

Mr. Jefferson, who focuses his trial practice on business, insurance, and fiduciary duty litigation, will serve as the House's public member. Mr. Anchia, D-Dallas, is serving his third term for District 103 in the Texas House of Representatives. Texas Monthly named him "Rookie of the Year" during the 79th Legislative Session and one of the "10 Best Legislators" during the 80th Legislative Session. He currently serves as vice-chair of the Pensions, Investments and Financial Services Committee.

The Dallas Asian American Bar Association (DAABA) has named Haynes and Boone, LLP finance partner Albert Tan the 2009 recipient of its Outstanding Member Award.Mr. Tan was recognized for his dedicated efforts and contributions to DAABA, its members and the Asian-American legal community.

Mr. Tan is a dedicated advocate for the development and advancement of Asian Americans in the legal profession. Earlier this year, the Asian American Law Students Association (AALSA) at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law named him the 2009 recipient of its Outstanding Attorney Achievement Award. Mr. Tan is a graduate of SMU Dedman School of Law.

At Haynes and Boone, Mr. Tan represents investment and commercial banks in connection with bank financings for private equity funds in the United States, Europe and Asia. He also counsels U.S. and Chinese corporations on foreign direct investment projects in China and the United States. Principal clients include Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Mizuho Corporate Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, United Overseas Bank, Unipower, and Great Wall Drilling Company.
