The acquisition of Hunt Petroleum Corporation by XTO Energy, Inc. has been awarded Oil and Gas Investor magazine's Best M&A Deal award for 2008. The magazine presented the award to XTO President Vaughn Vennerberg in a ceremony at the Intercontinental Hotel in Houston.

A team of Jones Day M&A, Energy, and Tax lawyers in the firm's New York, Dallas, and Washington offices advised Hunt Petroleum in connection with a process initiated by Hunt that resulted in the company's merger with an affiliate of XTO for aggregate consideration of approximately $4.2 billion in cash and XTO common stock. The transaction team included Robert Profusek, Kathleen McLaurin, Randi Lesnick, Candace Ridgway, and George Manning.

The Oil and Gas Investor Excellence Awards honor commitment to quality and innovation in the following areas of the oil and gas industry - acquisitions, financing, exploration, field rejuvenation, investor relations, executive management, and corporate citizenship.
