Wiley Rein managing partner and former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Richard E. Wiley has been selected for induction into The Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame, an honor that recognizes his "pivotal role in the development of HDTV, serving as chairman of the FCC's Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service for nine years." The award will be presented during The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®Industry Forum to be held in Phoenix, Arizona October 18-21, 2009.
Wiley Rein LLP has announced the addition of Hilda Legg, former administrator of the Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS), as a consultant in its premier Communications Practice. A prominent broadband advocate, Ms. Legg joins a blue ribbon team of experienced experts - whose ranks include a former NTIA administrator, former FCC commissioners, former chief of the FCC's Wireline Competition Bureau and other experts - that will assist clients to navigate the new broadband stimulus programs of the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009 (ARRA).Under the new broadband stimulus programs of the ARRA, approximately $7 billion will be made available for grants, loans and loan guarantees to fund broadband initiatives.
As head of RUS, Ms. Legg administered a $6 billion loan and grant program for the infrastructure needs of rural America through Water and Environmental, Telecommunications and Rural Electrification Programs. She also has served as executive director and chief executive officer of The Center for Rural Development, a position in which she assisted in the development and implementation of a telecommunication program designed to maximize technology hardware in rural communities throughout Kentucky.
