Thompson & Knight Expands Rio de Janeiro Office

Thompson & Knight LLP, through its affiliated office Tauil & Chequer Advogados, has announced the expansion of its Rio de Janeiro office with Senior Counsel Sandoval Amui and Associates Claudia Barros and Marienne Melo rejoining the Firm.

Mr. Amui rejoins the firm as senior counsel in the International Energy Practice Group. He focuses his practice on global oil and gas contracts and related matters as well as legal matters relating to the energy business. Mr. Amui previously worked for Petrobras, Brazil's largest industrial company, as a manager and international negotiator and as a senior partner at Expetro Consultoria Internacional, where he assisted domestic and foreign energy companies in Brazil and around the globe. In addition to his expertise as an attorney, Mr. Amui is a petroleum engineer and has worldwide experience with regard to the technical, economic, and strategic aspects of the oil and gas business.

Ms. Barros rejoins the firm as an associate in the International Energy Practice Group. She focuses her practice on infrastructure projects, with an emphasis in electric energy and oil and gas matters.

Ms. Melo rejoins the Firm as an associate in the Oil and Gas Practice Group. She advises global oil and gas exploration and production companies and oil field service providers on their operations in Brazil and abroad.

Thompson & Knight LLP has elected 12 lawyers to serve on the Firm's Management Committee for 2009. Peter J. Riley was elected to his ninth term as the Firm's Managing Partner. Pierce is a member of the Firm's Corporate and Securities Practice Group in the Houston office; Stephen C. Rasch is a member of the Firm's Trial Practice Group in the Dallas office; William J. Schuerger is a member of the Firm's Corporate and Securities Practice Group in the Dallas office; Mark M. Sloan is a member of the Firm's Real Estate and Banking Practice Group in the Dallas office; and Bruce S. Sostek serves as Co-Practice Leader of the Firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Dallas office.
