The film follows the journey of the 1935 debate team from Wiley College, a small black college deep in the rural Jim Crow South, to its upset of the all-white reigning national championship debate team at the University of Southern California. Wiley College was made famous in the highly-acclaimed 2007 theatrical release, "The Great Debaters" starring Denzel Washington.
