William R. Sasso was appointed vice-chair of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners. The Board emphasizes the importance of professional responsibility and character in the legal profession, and evaluates the likelihood of an aspiring lawyer's ability to uphold, and commit to, the standards of the profession. It is empowered by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to recommend individuals for admission to become a member of the bar of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth.
Mr. Sasso has served as chairman of Stradley Ronon's 190-plus-attorney firm since 1994. In addition, he is widely recognized for his civic accomplishments including serving as former chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce's board of directors, as a member of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau board and executive committee, a trustee of his alma mater LaSalle University, and as a trustee of Leo Niessen Jr. Charitable Foundation.
Stradley Ronon partner and intellectual property group chair Kevin Casey served as the moderator at the Philadelphia IP Law Association meeting and CLE presentation, "Arbitrating/Mediating Intellectual Property Disputes - Before Filing, Pending Trial, and on Appeal," which over 100 IP practitioners attended.The panel included Chief Judge Paul R. Michel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and Judge Berle M. Schiller and Magistrate Judge L. Felipe Restrepo both of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Casey also led a program titled "Ethical Jeopardy!" at a meeting of the Benjamin Franklin American Inn of Court, which promotes skill improvement, professionalism and legal ethics through collegial discourse and mentoring programs. The program explored ethical issues confronting the intellectual property lawyer in the general context of the familiar game show format.
Mr. Casey has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and related matters. Mr. Casey is ranked one of the leading IP attorneys in Pennsylvania by America's Leading Lawyers for Business, The Client's Guide and has authored numerous papers on IP issues and teaches IP courses at Temple University School of Law as an adjunct professor. Mr. Casey is also the co-chair of the firm's alternative dispute resolution practice group.
Deborah Hong, Stradley Ronon partner, was appointed to the board of trustees for the Center for Literacy (CFL), the nation's largest community-based nonprofit literacy provider.CFL provides a range of literacy services to adults, youth and families throughout the greater Philadelphia area and is considered a leader in the field.
Ms. Hong is a partner in the firm's business practice group and focuses on the areas of structured finance, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate counseling.
