Kelley Drye & Warren LLP litigation partner Robert S. Friedman and bankruptcy partner Eric R. Wilson have been selected as winners of the 2008 Burton Awards for Legal Achievement, considered one of the highest literary honors in law. Mr. Friedman and Mr. Wilson will receive the award for their article "The Legal Fallout from the Subprime Crisis" published in the May 2007 issue of The Banking Law Journal. The article addressed the relationships involved in the subprime mortgage industry and explored how the issues would be resolved in courts and bankruptcy proceedings.

This annual award is organized in association with the Library of Congress and its Law Library and recognizes only 30 winners from multiple submissions from the top 1000 law firms in the United States.

The ceremony will be held in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress on June 16, 2008. U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer will be the guest speaker, in a presentation covered by C-Span. Veteran journalist Bill Press will serve as the master of ceremonies.

Turnarounds & Workouts honored partner Eric R. Wilson in its 2008 special report of 12 "Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers." The selected attorneys were under 40 years old and noted for outstanding achievements in the field of bankruptcy law. The editors chose the leading lawyers with a nationwide nomination process. Mr. Wilson was noted as the lead partner in representing HSBC as indenture trustee to $2.2 billion in bonds issued by Calpine Canada Energy Finance and for representing Atlantic Richfield, ARCO Environmental Remediation, and BP America regarding CERCLA contribution claims against ASARCO in the largest environmental bankruptcy case ever filed. Turnarounds & Workouts is a publication that covers distressed businesses in the United States and Canada.
