To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel :

Dedicated to helping in-house lawyers not just to survive, but to thrive, in today's increasingly complex legal environment, ACC has launched a new Austin Chapter.

We hosted our Inaugural Event on November 2, 2004. Focused on networking, 68 members out of a total membership of 88 in-house counsel attended, the event featured wine tasting and a panel discussion by four general counsels from among the largest employers in Austin - Harry Wolin, SVP and General Counsel of AMD; Lawrence Tu, SVP and General Counsel of Dell; John Torres, SVP and General Counsel of Freescale Semiconductor; and Mike Godfrey, former Vice Chancellor and General Counsel of the University of Texas. They discussed their perspectives and thoughts on challenges that in-house legal departments face today. The event was sponsored by Baker Botts LLP and McGinnis Lochridge and Kilgore LLP.

I'd like to encourage all in-house lawyers in the Austin area to join our dynamic and growing chapter. Our mission is to provide meaningful, relevant CLE programs and networking opportunities that will help in-house counsel to enhance their careers.

On February 18, we hosted our first CLE program.Another successful event with 46 attendees, it focused on the pending update to the 2006 Business Organization Code to incorporate changes that were made in the 2003 Texas Legislature to the Code's source statutes, including the Texas Business Corporation Act, the Texas Revised Partnership Act, the Texas Revised Limited Partnership Act and the Texas Limited Liability Company Act. All of these statutes had a number of amendments made to them in 2003 that did not parallel existing provisions of the Code. The new bill would amend the Code to add similar changes before the Code becomes effective on January 1, 2006. The sponsor was Jackson Walker, L.L.P.

In-house lawyers in Austin should stay tuned for our chapter's social event in March and full-day conference in April. I look forward to seeing you there. To find out more about our Chapter and its planned events, please visit our website at www.acca.com.

Sincerely,

Michael Powell
