To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:
January 14, marks the one-year anniversary of the Charlotte Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. We are celebrating our first year with a Gala cocktail reception on January 21 at Charlotte's Mint Museum of Craft and Design.
As we reflect on our first year, I think we can all take a measure of pride and satisfaction in how far we have come as a group. Allow me to highlight our accomplishments of the past year and a vision for the future.
1. Including our inaugural event, we held five very successful meetings, with programs including corporate governance, ethics for in-house counsel, document management and FLSA issues.
2. We have solicited and received generous support this year from several local and national firms, and we have received numerous requests from potential sponsors who are eager to present substantive programs to the Chapter.
3. For 2005, we are planning at least six meetings and/or events, including at least one family-oriented outing during the summer. We are planning to introduce a community service component to our already-strong program agenda, and we also plan to introduce a "General Counsel Roundtable," a quarterly gathering designed to meet the unique needs of corporate general counsel.
4. We intend to partner with local and state bar sections where appropriate to co-sponsor CLE sessions and with our colleagues in the Research Triangle Chapter to hold a state-wide ACC meeting. Both opportunities will provide additional venues for corporate counsel to meet and address legal issues relevant to our practice.
Once again, I would like to thank the Officers, Board and members of the Planning and Nominations Committees who have worked so hard this past year to make all of this possible. None of this could have happened without their incredible commitment and dedication.
Building on our efforts this year, we are in the process of electing a new slate of Officers, Board Members and Committees for 2005. Most of our 2004 volunteers asked to stay on to complete the work they started, and it was extremely gratifying to see so many new people willing to volunteer their time and energy to help us move forward. The 2005 slate incorporates as many new people as possible.
