To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:
I know New Year's Day is in January, but September feels like the start of something new: summer winds down, the kids start school, you think back to starting your first law job after taking a long vacation after the bar exam. Most of us have been out of school long enough that September is just another month (although for those of us who are parents it is a month of bills for new clothes, school supplies and plenty of school forms to complete). So, I can't help but think of it as the start of a new year.
I feel this way about NJCCA, too, because September is the start of a new cycle for us.The Board is preparing for the first full meeting since June. We start our CLE programs in September after a summer hiatus and we are working on our three big membership gatherings in September, November and May.
First up is the Second Annual Full Day Conference on Thursday, September 23, at the Headquarters Plaza in Morristown, NJ. A committee led by Barry Pulver has worked hard to deliver a full day of Continuing Legal Education programs on multiple tracks covering legal, business and personal management topics to help you be the best you can be at your career. Through the generosity of law firm and vendor sponsors, attendees will enjoy a full lunch and a cocktail reception. CLE credit, including ethics credit, is available. In addition to the Full Day Conference, we will continue to have other CLE programs throughout the year.Watch for our e-mail and mail notices.
After that we have our Annual Membership Meeting in November at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, NJ. I look forward to sharing with you then a report on the state of NJCCA. We will also elect new Board Members at the meeting. The Nominating Committee has been hard at work this summer identifying nominees to be voted upon at the Meeting. We will send materials on the meeting and the nominations process shortly. In the meantime, if you are interested in becoming an active committee member, committee leader or Board member, please contact us.
Finally, we will have a reception in the Spring for a little networking and just plain fun.
As I said, it really is the start of a new cycle and I hope to see many of you at these events. Don't feel, however, that you have to wait for an event to find out what is new, to share an idea or meet your fellow in-house lawyers. Feel free to contact me at email@example.com and let's see how we can get you involved in NJCCA. The more you put into NJCCA, the more you will get out of it and the better job NJCCA can do to help make you the best in-house attorney you can be.
Whether you are new to in-house practice, looking to enhance your skills and experiences in your current position, planning a career move or have ideas to help corporate counsel who are in transition, NJCCA's leaders and I would be delighted to hear from you and see you at our upcoming events.
