To The Readers Of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:
2004 has been and continues to be an exciting and educational year for the 350 members of the DFW ACC chapter. As always, our Board of Directors strives to present a blend of topical CLE programs and enjoyable social and networking events for all our members, and we believe this year's calendar is right on course.
In January Mike Tankersley of Bracewell & Patterson offered information regarding current trends in corporate law, and Larry Glasgow, GardereWyneeSewell,LLP continued that trend in March with an interesting and creative presentation regarding the impact of new SEC requirements on publicly traded companies. Each of us received helpful information in April regarding current compensation trends when Ed Lynch of Deloitte & Touche presented the results of our second annual in-house compensation survey. Sharing this CLE and compensation information with all of our members continues to be a primary objective, and we'll continue to see the results in the future.
Our Programs Committee has developed an ambitious slate of programs for the remainder of the year. In May we offer our traditional one-day CLE seminar on key topics of interest to all of our members. This successful program continues to draw a wide cross-section of in-house lawyers from small and large companies and provides each of the attendees with an excellent opportunity to learn about current trends in specific areas, such as international law, immigration, litigation management, law department management and ethics. The attendance at this program continues to grow, and we anticipate a sell-out crowd again in 2004.
It's hot in Texas in the summer, but that doesn't slow us down! We continue our regular events with exciting social activities in June and additional CLE in August. And this year we are extremely excited about a new CLE/social event a golf tournament/spa day! We realized that our members all work extremely hard and that having a relaxing (and competitive!) event like this would offer another opportunity to meet and develop those relationships which are so critical in today's business climate. We anticipate a great turnout for this event and believe it will become an annual activity. As the year comes to a close, we'll finish off a full slate of events with additional programs on contracts review and negotiation and an intellectual property update in October, as well as our annual meeting which is traditionally held in November.
As I review our schedule, I realize that this chapter is one of the most diverse and dedicated chapters in the U.S.We understand that each in-house lawyer has distinctive needs and is striving to develop their technical expertise and leadership skills. Our goal is to offer in a cost-effective and beneficial manner the information and opportunities that will help each of us succeed. Whether we're listening to a CLE program or mingling with our colleagues at a social function, we know that being an in-house lawyer and a member of ACC is rewarding and satisfying.
