Letter From The Co-Chair Of The ABA Section Of Litigation Corporate Counsel Committee

2012-12-12 12:13

To the Readers of The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel:

On February 14 through 17, 2013, the Corporate Counsel Committee of the ABA’s Section of Litigation will host its 32nd Annual Corporate Counsel CLE Seminar at the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Florida. As a special incentive for in-house counsel to join us for this event – and for the first time ever – we are very pleased to be able to offer FREE REGISTRATION FOR IN-HOUSE COUNSEL. It is said that “the best things in life are free” – and for any in-house counsel interested in a lively mix of professional education and networking opportunities in South Florida in February, our 2013 CLE Seminar is no exception! The Section’s Business Torts Litigation, Minority Trial Lawyer and Woman Advocate Committees are co-hosting the seminar, and we are very proud to have four prominent general counsel serving as honorary co-chairs for the event: Cornell Boggs of Dow Corning Corporation, Barbara Daniele of GE Capital Americas, Michele Coleman Mayes of The New York Public Library, and David Snively of Monsanto Company.

Our seminar has long been known for its uniquely collaborative environment, in which in-house and outside counsel can speak candidly about a broad array of issues of concern to litigators representing corporations in a volatile economic, legal, regulatory and technological world. The 2013 edition of our seminar will feature practical and relevant CLE programs on topics ranging from crisis management, internal investigations, corporate compliance, governance and ethics, to insurance, diversity, outsourcing, arbitration, social media, e-discovery and more. Both in-house and outside counsel perspectives will be offered throughout our CLE programming. In-house counsel panelists are expected to join us from Ruud Lighting Inc., Northrop Grumman Corporation, The Laclede Group, S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc., Medifast, Inc., Tyco International, Chartis, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, Ryder System, Inc., Godiva, Bechtel Group, Inc., UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement, Pfizer Inc., Aon Risk Services of New York, Dignity Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, Goldman Sachs & Company, Capella University, Compliance Systems Legal Group and The Procter & Gamble Company.  Additional programming highlights are our perennially popular General Counsel Forum on Thursday afternoon, February 14, featuring Timothy Donovan of Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Elisa Garcia of Office Depot, Inc., Jill Granat of Burger King Corporation and Thomas Sager of DuPont Company, and also our dynamic and highly entertaining Litigation Management Roundtable on Sunday morning, February 17.  A total of 11 hours of MCLE credit (including 4.5 hours of ethics credit) have been requested in 60-minute states, and 13.2 hours of MCLE credit (including 5.4 hours of ethics credit) have been requested in 50-minute states.

In addition to thought-provoking CLE programming, our 2013 seminar will provide opportunities to share your thoughts at our In-House Counsel-Only Open Forum Discussion; to attend our Fifteenth Annual Pro Bono Award Luncheon; to learn about our subcommittees and attend their business meetings; and to enjoy networking receptions and dinners, as well as a variety of other formal and informal social and recreational activities, including a golf tournament, tennis, spa services and a kayaking excursion.  If you are not already a member of our Corporate Counsel Committee, we hope, after attending our 2013 seminar, you will decide to join and become active in the Committee!

Our 2013 seminar co-chairs, Lynn McCreary, senior vice president and deputy general counsel, Fiserv, Inc.; Stephen Norman, Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP; Andrew Shipley, Perkins Coie LLP; and Amy Stewart, Bickel & Brewer, have invested boundless energy and creativity to plan and coordinate the seminar.  In short, our 2013 Corporate Counsel CLE Seminar is bound to be one of the most valuable, rewarding, enjoyable and memorable CLE events you have ever attended.  For more information or to register, please go to: http://www.americanbar.org/calendar/2013/02/2013_corporate_counselcleseminar.html.
